I used to be like that, but then my old car started doing what your's did. Breaking a little at a time over an extended period of time. First, I found a good garage, where they didn't mind my asking questions. Then, I demanded to know what was broken, how it broke, could I see it, please, now show me one that isn't broken, etc, etc, etc. Now, I can change my own spark plugs, oil, tire, oil filter, air filter and I can tell when it's diesling. Now, when my Saturn has a problem, I tell THEM what it is and roll my eyes at them if they suggest otherwise. It has saved me hundreds.

If you feel bad, let me just tell you that I am a guy and I have the same adversion to the mechanic. And they also call ME little lady. Not really, but they should.

I was in a car accident a little while ago and had to get my car towed away. When we came to pick it up after all the repairs were supposedly done, we were informed that the air bag light was still on and needed to be switched off. And that it was going to take a whole other week to do so. A whole other week to switch of a measly little light? I told them to show me the damn switch and I'd flick it off myself. But no. Apparently to turn off the light, they had to replace all the seatbelts. The seatbelts. No. It didn't make sense to me or the big man behind me either. Mechanics, I tell ya.
